Cybersecurity is often associated with complex codes and sophisticated software. However, in the digital landscape, the most vulnerable aspect isn’t always technology. Enter the world of ‘human hacking,’ a cunning strategy used by criminals to manipulate people into bypassing robust security systems. The rapid rise of these nefarious tactics, especially through seemingly innocuous means such as QR codes, is alarming. Learn more about their tactics and common scams so you can best protect your assets and your personal information.
Financial Fraud and the Art of Deception
Years ago, scammers were relatively easy to spot – poor grammar and dodgy websites were glaring red flags for fishy (or phish-y) business. Now, bad actors are using incredibly sophisticated techniques and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to know when you’re being scammed. Today, we share two real examples of fraud schemes that are threatening Yeske Buie and Schwab clients to help you identify a scam before you fall victim to their remarkable techniques.

Word of the Week: Data Breach
Staying on theme, today’s focus phrase is data breach. A data breach is the intentional or unintentional release of secure information to an untrusted environment – it is typically an event where attackers actively compromise data. You may not be able to control whether or not your information is part of a data breach, but knowing how to respond can help minimize the damage. Check out this tip sheet from our colleagues at Schwab.

Greatest Life Lesson
My biggest lesson/advice is that it’s never too late. I didn’t earn my first college degree until I was 30, opened my financial planning practice at 32, became a Dad in my 40s, earned my doctorate in my 50s. My philosophy is that, fate allowing, you’re going to get older one way or another, why not be 2, 3, 5, years older having accomplished something meaningful to you. I’m still working on the rest of my list . . .
