TheLiveBigWay* Digest – Graduation Edition
College Graduation
For many people around the country, May means cap and gown, graduation ceremonies, and having or witnessing the experience of the slightly fearful but exhilarating realization that one chapter in life has ended and a new one is about to begin. As always, this should be a time of celebration and hope marked with a healthy dose – but not overdose – of realism.
For that reason, we’re highlighting two graduation pieces that exemplify that spirit. The first is an article by our friend Bob Powell, who writes for The Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch, offering practical tips on how to prepare for life post-graduation and, ultimately, “retire rich.” The second is a video of one of the most highly regarded commencement speeches in recent years, delivered by Apple’s Steve Jobs in 2005. Finally, we offer a recap of the high-profile individuals who have spoken or will be speaking at commencement ceremonies in schools across the nation in the month of May, including President Barack Obama, Stephen Colbert, Oprah Winfrey, and the Dalai Lama. If you’re a fan of Stephen Colbert (and/or a Wahoo), the video of his speech at UVA will be well worth 17 minutes of your time.

2013 FPA NorCal Conference
Elissa and Dave will be presenting at FPA NorCal not once but twice (very few speakers are asked to do this) over the two-day conference held at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco, CA. Their presentation will focus on “Team and Technology, Efficient and Effective”. Elissa and Dave will discuss how Yeske Buie has struck a unique balance in blending efficiency and effectiveness from its predecessor firms. They will also approach the technology question from the standpoint of the policy framework from within which technology is used to support all the functions of the firm. We will post photos and send updates during and after the conference via the various social media platforms listed under “Connect with Yeske Buie” below.
