Grounded Hope and the Stockdale Paradox

We at Yeske Buie are often noted for the fundamental optimism of our worldview, the core beliefs that guide our advice and actions. Optimism about human nature writ large and its implications for the world, the world of homes and social systems, economies and markets. We’ve always recognized that with such persistent optimism we risk appearing a Pollyanna and so we balance it with a realistic assessment of the conditions of the moment. You could call it Realistic Optimism. We recently found and wanted to share a video of Jim Collins, author of “From Good to Great” and “Built to Last,” that we think is a perfect expression of this challenging duality.
