We Want To Be Your First Call

first call

If you’ve been a Client of ours for a while, or if you’ve met with us to learn more about who we are and what we do, you most likely have heard one of our financial planners say “we want to be your first call.” Of course, there are some instances where we should absolutely be further down the list (though it makes our hearts incredibly happy when you share pictures of new kids and grandkids, engagements, weddings, new pets, and other Live Big® moments in your life). When we say we want to be your first call, what we really mean is that we want to support you in all the things related to your financial plan. And your financial plan encompasses essentially every single spoke of your life, from how you spend your leisure time and engage with your community, to your work, family, and finances.

While this list is not all-encompassing, here are some areas of your world where we’d love to be your first (or second) call:

Family & Relationships:
  • You’re thinking about getting married (yay)! We’d love to meet your partner and facilitate a conversation around joint finances.
  • Just got married? Time to revisit your estate plan, update beneficiaries, and talk about life insurance.
  • You are welcoming a new baby – let’s chat about baby names, 529 plans, and (again) talk about more life insurance.
  • A loved one passed away – we are here first to hug you and to listen to all the amazing stories you want to tell about your loved one, then to help you navigate next steps at the pace that feels right for you.
  • Your child is considering moving abroad (how exciting, but also scary!) — what should they be thinking about and how can we help them?
  • Considering supporting aging parents financially or moving them into your home? We should talk.
  • Divorce, separation, or blending families — what changes should happen in your financial plan to reflect your new reality?
  • Planning for long-term care needs for yourself or a loved one? We can help with that.
Work & Career:
  • Landed your dream job? Send us your employee benefits packet so we can help you select options that work for you and provide an investment recommendation for your 401(k) (as well as guidance on how much to contribute, how it’ll play into your cash flow, and whether you should be making traditional or Roth contributions).
  • You are being offered a voluntary early retirement opportunity with an expiration date of 30-days from now — let’s talk about the pros and cons.
  • Retirement is approaching – how much can you sustainably spend? Read this article about our Safe-Spending Policies and call us to discuss.
  • You lost your job unexpectedly – what does this mean for your financial plan? What does this mean for your insurance coverage? Give us a call.
  • You’re being offered equity compensation like Incentive Stock Options (ISOs) or Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), or the opportunity to participate in an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) — what should you do?
  • You’re starting your own business or side hustle and need guidance on structure, taxes, and retirement savings – we’re great people to think with®.
  • You’re moving abroad for work — how does that impact your taxes, investments, and retirement savings? Master tip: Don’t change your address at Schwab without talking to us first!
Finances & Planning:
  • Credit card balances piling up? Let’s build a repayment plan together.
  • Should you lease or buy a new car? Should you go fully electric? Do you qualify for any tax savings?
  • You are approaching Medicare age and want support navigating all the decisions – we can help! Check out this webinar and reach out.
  • You receive a call from a Kenyan Prince who requests you send him money via $500 Amazon gift cards so that you can help keep his family safe – please call us so we can tell you this is a scam and not to send this person money!
    • In the same vein, call us if you receive any of the following phone calls:
      • FBI reaching out to ask for your help solving a crime (and them threatening that if you don’t help you will be sent to prison!).
      • Your bank or broker reaches out to you about helping them catch internal thieves. Spoiler alert: they don’t need your help, and this is a scam.
  • You were nonrenewed on your homeowner’s insurance — what now?
  • You are receiving an inheritance or large windfall — how should you handle it?
  • Preparing for a big expense (wedding, sabbatical, home renovation) — let us help you strategize to get the most out of this experience.
  • Wondering about refinancing your mortgage or consolidating other debt? We love to walk those ideas around the block.
  • A friend pitches a “can’t miss” business investment? Let’s discuss the tradeoffs (or help you draft a polite decline).
Community:
  • Europe is calling your name and you are considering moving there – lets talk about the finances of it all, but also the emotional transitions that come with living in a new country.
  • You’d like to give back to your community, both in volunteering your time and in providing financial contributions. We should discuss a strategy around charitable giving and the best tools for accomplishing that.
Leaisure, Passion, & Travel:
  • You are retired, but you are mentally/emotionally having a hard time adjusting to not having a place to be every day. Let’s talk about ways to stay engaged with your passions.
  • Traveling feels like more of a priority. How much can you afford to spend on vacations each year?
Home:
  • You are considering buying a new home. How should you finance it? What are you doing with your current home? What will your cash flow look like going forward?
  • The prospect of being a landlord feels appealing to you and you’re asking yourself if you should buy a rental property. We should discuss the potentialities.
  • You have major tech problems that you can’t seem to solve – call us (we know a guy who may be able to help).
  • Your dream home was just put up for sale – can you afford it?
  • Summer in Virginia would be a lot nicer if you had a pool in the back yard – what’s the best way to finance it?
Learning:
  • Covering college costs for your child or grandchild is a priority for you – lets plan together.
  • You’re thinking about going back to school. What else should you be thinking about?
  • You have questions about how to complete the FAFSA for your child. We can help with that, too.

We hope the list of reasons to call us feels boundless, because we truly mean it when we say we want to be your first call. If you’ve ever been presented with opportunities or a challenge where you thought, “Huh, I wonder if my financial planning team at YeskeBuie could help me with this,” we absolutely want you to call us. (Ideally, you’d call us before you do the thing so that we can be a thinking partner in the decision rather than giving you our thoughts after the fact.)

We look forward to navigating your next transition, big or small, together.
