Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day
People all across the nation will be participating in the 2013 National Day of Service tomorrow, Jan. 19th, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President’s national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. -Corporation for National & Community Service

YeBu Investment Philosophy
Our approach to developing and managing client investment portfolios arises from our evidence-based beliefs about how the economy and financial markets work. In this 27 minute presentation, we share our understanding of how markets work and the investment management process that flows from this understanding.

UPDATE – Change to Tax Reporting on Client Private Pages®
We will no longer be posting a realized gain/loss report to your Client Private Page® as we have done previously (all other reports will still be available). Please refer to your Schwab 1099 for any taxable accounts such as an individual brokerage account, a joint brokerage account, or a trust. Schwab will send 1099s in the mail and post them to your Schwab account sometime between mid-January and early February.

Here is a screenshot of how to locate 1099s on the Schwab Alliance website
*Please note that the reports for tax year 2012 have not yet been posted to the Schwab website

Expert Spotlight: Dr. Jim McCabe on How to Plan Senior Housing for Aging Parents
One of the most difficult decisions for families as a parent ages is the question of staying at home versus a more structured institutional environment. For the senior, the goal is to age in place on one’s own terms in a place that is familiar – that is “home.” For an adult child, the focus is most often on safety and managing care needs. This situation sets up a conflict between the ingrained “wants” of the senior and the perceived “needs” of the concerned child.

The Virtues of Virtual Meetings
Dave has described the distance between the Virginia and California offices as just “one long hallway”. One of the ways we bridge the nearly 3,000 miles is by using GoToMeeting, a video conferencing program that allows you to have virtual meetings with up to 25 attendees complete with audio/video capabilities and the option to share each other’s computer screens.  We are happy we can make this simple, yet powerful tool available as one more option for meeting with Dave, Elissa, and the rest of the staff when time or circumstances make an office meeting inconvenient. By using GoToMeeting, clients can get the same information and visualization of an office meeting from the comfort of, well, anywhere!

Here is an example of how we used GoToMeeting at a recent staff meeting in which attendees participated from five different locations
