TheLiveBigWay* Digest – St. Patrick’s Day Edition

In this edition of the Digest, we discuss the implications of record stock market highs, the symbology of the four-leaf clover, tax reminders, our Vienna Retreat/Open House, and the start of March Madness.

Rocky Mountain High – Have Markets Entered Nosebleed Territory?
The eponymous John Denver song of our title came to us today as we completed the final day of our semi-annual staff retreat, which was faciliated by our Rocky Mountain friend David Brand on the same day that the S&P 500 stock index attained a new all-time high.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average, meanwhile, achieved its 10th day of new highs, a feat last seen in 1996. Staying with our mountain theme, we know some will be asking themselves: have we entered nosebleed territory?

And what does that imply for our existing or new investments in the market?

The Four-Leaf Clover
St. Patrick’s Day is just a couple of days away and in honor of the Irish, we are highlighting the good-luck symbol of the rare four-leaf clover. Each leaf of of the four-leaf clover symbolizes a different lucky characteristic:

-Respect
-Wealth
-Love
-Health

We focused on the “Love” piece in our Valentine’s Day Digest, so we will focus on “Wealth” this time around. But how does one define true wealth? The answer is that it depends. Explore what wealth means to you using our “Defining True Wealth” worksheet below. And if you’d like to share your answers with us, we’d love to see them.  You can return your completed worksheet via email to afp@yebu.com, by fax to (866) 549-4990, or by using your Client Private Page® upload feature (found on the Resources page).

Tax Reminders

Deadlines
Tax day is a month away (Monday, April 15th), which marks the deadline for making a contribution to a Traditional/Rollover IRA, Roth IRA, Health Savings Account (HSA), SEP-IRA or Solo 401(k). If you file for an extension then the latter two can receive contributions until October 15th.

Change to Tax Reporting on Client Private Page
We will no longer be posting a year-end realized gain/loss report to your Client Private Page as we have done previously (all other reports will still be available). We’ve made this change because your cost basis is now reported on your Schwab 1099. If you have any trouble locating your 1099, please let us know and we’ll get you a copy.

Staff Retreat and Vienna Office Open House

This week the Yeske Buie staff had our semi-annual Retreat and Open House in the Vienna, VA office.  Pictures and stories from both events will be featured in the next Digest.

March Madness
March Madness is upon us, with the first round beginning March 21st and the new NCAA champion crowned on April 8th. But one of the best parts of March Madness is the chance to join people across the nation who are putting together brackets in the hopes of finishing the tournament at the top of their respective leagues.  Yeske Buie is having a staff bracket challenge and we’ll announce the winner – and the often unique selection criteria – at the conclusion of the tournament.
