The stock incentives may come in many different shapes and sizes but most basically, stock options grant the employee the right to purchase a certain number of company stock shares at a certain price on a certain date. If the company’s stock price increases, the employee’s options are worth more and, thus, the employee is incentivized to help the company continue to grow.
