When it comes to financial planning, it can be difficult to stay on the straight and narrow planning path. In the midst of a rapidly changing world, well crafted financial planning policies can serve both planners and their Clients by acting as a powerful touchstone. As experts in the field, Elissa and Dave have made countless contributions and dozens of presentations on the topic of Policy-Based Financial Planning. Next week FPA of San Francisco’s chapter meeting, Dave will be teaming up with Terry Odean, a noted expert in behavioral finance, to discuss the importance of behavioral finance and how to help Clients make good financial decisions. Professor Odean will demonstrate psychological decision biases with interactive exercises and Dave will translate theory into practice with actionable decision framework. We encourage you to read more about Policy-Based Financial Planning and how decision architecture helps to build better choices.
The Yeske Buie team gathered in San Francisco last week for our biggest semi-annual retreat to date. We recognize this as our biggest retreat not only because of the size of our staff, but also because of our retreat work. This year, the team focused on solidifying Yeske Buie’s worldviews and core beliefs which resulted in the formation of what we call, the BIGs. Learn more about the BIGs and see pictures from our week together in San Francisco.
Taking Advantage of Catch-Up Contributions
Are you turning 50 in 2016 and currently working? Or have you recently turned 50? If so, this message applies to you. First of all, Happy Birthday and cheers to your youthful wisdom! In the year you turn 50, you become eligible for catch-up contributions to your retirement accounts. We recommend you take advantage of this ability and contribute the maximum, including the catch-up, wherever possible. For a 401(k) or 403(b), the maximum deferral amount is $18,000 (plus $6,000 if you are 50 or older). For IRAs, the maximum deferral amount is $5,500 (plus $1,000 if you are 50 or older). We will be reaching out individually if this recommendation applies to you, but we encourage you to pass along this information to your friends who may not receive the recommendation otherwise.
Cappella SF Concert: Songs for the Earth
A very exciting concert is coming up this Saturday, November 7th at 7:00pm at Mission Dolores Basilica in San Francisco – a collaboration between Cappella SF and the environmental group Food and Water Watch. Elissa and Dave will be attending the concert to listen to Ragnar Bohlin, artistic director of Cappella SF and Grammy-winning Chorus Director of San Francisco Symphony, lead a singular collection of 24 of the Bay Area’s finest choral musicians in a program of beautiful a cappella music and spoken reflections. Yeske Buie will also be sponsoring a recording of the holiday concert later in November which we will have available upon request during the holiday season.
