Who WILL You TRUST with Your Estate?

Last Will and TestamentPeople often wonder when it is appropriate to begin organizing their estate. When it comes to estate planning, there are several strategies to choose from to ensure your assets are distributed according to your wishes and in a timely fashion. Just as there isn’t a cookie cutter financial plan, the same could be said of your estate plan; the right strategy depends on your individual circumstances. For some, a trust can be a useful and practical tool. For others, it may be more than is necessary and a will would suffice. The question then becomes what is a trust, how does it differ from a will, and when do I need to start preparing my estate plan? In this piece, we will outline the differences between the two tools and several trigger events that can signal it may be time to organize your estate.

Employee Stock Options: Simplified

Stock Certificates and Dollar BillsChances are you have had stock options at one point or another or know someone who has. The term ‘stock options’ refers to company stock incentives offered to company employees. The stock incentives may come in many different shapes and sizes but most basically, stock options grant the employee the right to purchase a certain number of company stock shares at a certain price on a certain date. If the company’s stock price increases, the employee’s options are worth more and, thus, the employee is incentivized to help the company continue to grow. Here we’ll explore two of the most common forms of stock options and their main differences. Read on to learn more about the basics of Incentive Stock Options (ISOs) and Non-Qualified Stock Options (NQSOs).

Yeske Buie Intern Experiences the Pope in DC

KC- Pope 5Kyle Covington, Financial Planning Intern working in our Virginia office, had the opportunity to see the Pope this week during his visit to Washington, D.C. Despite an early morning (Kyle arrived at the White House at 4:00am to allow plenty of time to get through security), Kyle greatly enjoyed the opportunity and described the Live Big experience as such; “Today, I had the ability to watch history happen. Standing on the South Lawn of the White House, the leader of the Catholic Church addressed the USA with a mission to learn the hopes and dreams of the American people. It was amazing to see how 11,000 people came together to welcome this individual, not counting the tens of thousands that lined the parade route outside the gates. While we certainly came from many walks of life, everyone was willing to hear Francis’ message – something not always seen in today’s culture.”
